One of my favorite noodle (ramen) joint in Los Angeles is Orochon Ramen in Downtown Los Angeles.
What's unique about this place is that you have the option to choose different soup types (miso, soy sauce, salt), different level of spicy-ness, and toppings.
Japanese ramens come in variety of tastes based on different parts of the regions. The ramen served in Orochon Ramen is based on Kitakata style. Originally kitakata ramens are usually simple and light. So being able to choose different level of spicy-ness is pretty unique.
Japanese's favorite combination with the ramens are fried rice and dumplings. I don't know why, but that's the basics. If you ever get the chance to stop by JANM (Japanese American National Museum), maybe you can stop by at this noodle place as well. The other rival store is called Daikoku-ya, which is on the 1st St., but I will cover that later.
Orochon is located in downtown LA, check out the map below.
They are opened 7 days, 11:30 a.m. - 10:15 p.m.
